Dharamsala, India: The Netherlands pulled off a shock 38-run win over South Africa in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match in Dharamshala on Tuesday. The win was the Netherlands' first in the tournament, while South Africa suffered their first defeat.
The Netherlands were put in to bat first and they made a solid start, thanks to half-centuries from Max O'Dowd (57) and Vikramjit Singh (56). They lost wickets in the middle overs, but a late flourish from Logan van Beek (48*) helped them post a competitive total of 247/9.
South Africa got off to a poor start in their chase, losing three wickets for just 23 runs. Temba Bavuma (40) and David Miller (39) tried to rebuild the innings, but they were unable to find any support from the other batsmen. South Africa were eventually bowled out for 209 in 47.2 overs.
Logan van Beek was the star performer for the Netherlands with the ball, taking four wickets for 31 runs. He was ably supported by Bas de Leede (3/38) and Tim Pringle (2/49).
The win was a major upset for South Africa, who were considered to be one of the favorites to win the tournament. The Netherlands, on the other hand, will be buoyed by this victory and they will be hoping to build on it in their upcoming matches.
